HAWARDEN, IOWA ~ Alfred Lee Jackson, Sr., 67, of Hawarden, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at his residence with his wife and son by his side.
Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with Rev. Dr. Tom Smith officiating. The service will be livestreamed and uploaded to his obituary page. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Alfred was born in France, parents Hertha and Raliegh Jackson. He grew up with 4 siblings and lived in numerous states across the country. When he was a teenager in Michigan, he loved hunting whitetail deer and racing stockcars. He played football at the center and middle linebacker positions and was also a wrestler. Graduating from Oscoda, Michigan in 1975 he joined the Navy and throughout his journey became a Navy Seal.
After Honorable discharge from the Navy, he got numerous certifications in construction and was a project manager for over 30 years. He took pride in his work with little to no imperfections. He was a servant of the Lord…he Always put others first, especially his family, and other children and families in the community! He Loved to coach Football and Wrestling! He made such an impact on so many lives, including the lives of the children he drove back and forth to school every day, and was so Proud to be a school bus driver! He was loved by so many as he was a kind, loving soul! He will be missed by so many! After retiring he decided to keep busy and drive a school bus for 9 years and was loved by all of his kids.
He has his beautiful wife Cathy and three sons, Fred, Bob, and Sam. He loved to be outdoors while hunting and fishing, no matter if it was in the mountains of Colorado or the seas of Florida. He moved to Iowa in 2019 from Colorado enjoying the simple lifestyle and small town feel of Hawarden.
In 2023, Alfred got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Shortly after this he found out he had an abscess in his stomach from an old abdominal surgery. He was being taken care of by his family and the Orange City Hospice team. Alfred passed away peacefully at home with his wife Cathy and Son Sam by his side.
