Anthony "Tony" Gacke

Rock Valley, IA: Anthony “Tony” Gacke, 97, of Rock Valley, died Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Rock Valley. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with a Prayer Service following at 7:30 p.m.

Anthony Steven Gacke, son of Benjamin and Rose (Sauers) Gacke, was born April 16, 1918 at Alvord, Iowa. Tony attended and graduated from Alvord High School, Class of 1935. Tony was united in marriage with Rose Daniels on April 10, 1945 at Larchwood, Iowa. Together they farmed southwest of Alvord until 1957. They then moved to a farm southwest of Rock Valley until retiring in 1984. The couple moved to Whispering Heights of Rock Valley in 2014. Tony enjoyed golfing, dancing with Rose, listening to polka music, playing cards with friends and family, and traveling. Tony loved dancing the waltz with Rose and a couple of his most enjoyable trips were to Canada and Washington D.C. He was also an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Tony was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Rock Valley.

Tony is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 71 years, Rose; five children, Carol (Jerry) Flanagan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Joe (Lin) Gacke of Hudson, South Dakota; Pat (David) Larson of Apple Valley, Minnesota; Steve (Cheri) Gacke of Rock Valley; and Nancy (Mark) Wynia of Rock Valley; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Beatrice (Bob) Bruggeman of Larchwood, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Betty Gacke of Larchwood and Gladys Daniels of Sioux Falls; brother-in-law, Bob Schreurs of Slayton, Minnesota; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Melvina Scholten; Donna Scholten; Eileen Wagner; and Mariann Schreurs; and brother, Robert Gacke.
