Anthony “Tony” Kelvin Rozeboom was born June 29, 1956, in Sioux Center, Iowa, to Dick G. and Kryna (Van Hofwegen) Rozeboom. Growing up, he attended several area schools including Central Lyon and West Lyon, eventually graduating with his GED.

Tony married Arlys (Gorter) on November 18, 1977. Shortly after their wedding, Tony was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Upon diagnosis, he was told that he had 6 months to live. But for those who knew Tony, know he was just ornery enough to prove them wrong, living 45 more wonderful years.

Tony spent his life doing what he loved most, sitting behind the steering wheel of a Peterbilt. He and Arlys even spent some years as a team, driving all over the country. He worked for several area companies, but when his kids became involved in school activities, he knew he wanted to be able to be home more, so he started his own company, Tony Rozeboom Trucking.

This June, he checked an item off his bucket list, putting one million miles on a new truck that he had bought. Throughout his years as a trucker, Tony worked with several family members, but he also made friends that became like family to him. He loved chatting on the phone and working with his trucking buddies, customers, and other people in the industry whom he came to love.

Although trucking was Tony’s passion, his family was his true pride and joy. Anyone who knew him knows how proud he was of his children. He worked hard to give them the life he wanted for them. More recently, he acquired his favorite title, Papa Tony. Although he would’ve wanted more time with his boys, he packed a lot of love into the past 3 years.

Tony was a hard worker, but he always made time for his family, vacations, and sit-down restaurants. He loved great conversations and if you knew Tony, you know he loved anything with a big engine, especially if it was red. He was a great man and will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Arlys; daughter, Jessica (Eric) Hansen and their sons, Bennett and Camden; son, Philip (Aly) Rozeboom and their son, Oscar; step-mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Rozeboom; siblings, Gerrit (Evonne) Rozeboom, Cora (Arlan) Kooima, Rick (Karla) Rozeboom, and Daryl (Kath) Rozeboom; mother-in-law, Alvina Davelaar; siblings-in-law, Gail (Harold) Vollink, Mike Gorter, and Harlan Gorter; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dick and Kryna; father-in-law, Herman Gorter; and nephews, Michael Kooima and Ryan Gorter.
