Inwood, IA: Ardis Leota Madland, 99, of Inwood, Iowa, died Friday, October 26, 2018 at Fellowship Village in Inwood. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 29, at 10:30 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Inwood with Rev. John Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery of Inwood. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Sunday, October 28, at Porter Funeral Home of Inwood from 5:00-6:30 PM. Memorials may be given to Fellowship Village or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Leota was born on December 31, 1918, near Inwood, Iowa, the daughter of Cornelius and Eva (Thompson) Hemness. She graduated from Inwood High School in 1936 and worked at the Model Market in Inwood and the J.W. Robinson Department Store in Los Angeles, California.
On January 12, 1944, she married Dallas “Bud” Madland at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood. Leota was a homemaker, wife and mother and she worked for Dr. Foss and at the Inwood Furniture Store. She was a dedicated member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood and was active in community/church organizations, civic/school fundraising, and was a longtime Cub Scout Leader. Leota moved to Fellowship Village in June of 2008.
Survivors include her children, Marsha (Ken) Heimgartner and their daughter, Jill (Mike) Shuman; Brian (Lois) Madland and their daughter, Tess (Brad) Taylor and their family, Annika and Brian; Roberta Madland and John (Beth) Madland and their sons, Jeff and Christopher. Also surviving is a sister, Eleanor (Dick) Schemmel of Inwood. Leota was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; parents, Cornelius and Eva; and siblings, Glenn Hemness and Crystal Howard.
