Inwood, IA: Asborg Hamran, 95, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Fellowship Village in Inwood, IA. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 5:30 PM at Richland Cemetery in Inwood with Rev. John Wolf officiating. Public visitation, with no family present, will be held on Wednesday at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood from 1:00-5:00 PM.
Asborg was born in Hagebostad, Norway on May 16, 1925 to Oluf and Anna (Birkeland) Hamran. In 1928, when she was 3 years old, she traveled by ship with her family to America. They settled near Klondike, IA, and later moved to Inwood, IA. She attended rural schools in Lyon County and graduated from Inwood High School. She then taught rural elementary schools while attending night classes at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, where she received her teaching degree.
Asborg taught 3rd grade for many years at West Lyon Community School District and retired in May 1993. She had a passion to educate children and truly enjoyed all of her students. She was a very organized person and was not afraid of hard work.
Asborg is survived by nieces Julie (Lane) Jervik, and Diane (Troy) Balk; nephews Mark Hamran and Paul (Jenny) Hamran; great nephews and nieces Chad Hamran, Nicole (Ben) Westra, Christopher Jervik (Kailey Kuhnert), Alex Jervik, Jonah Hamran, Alexis Abbott, Brady Abbott, and Kaitlyn Abbott; great, great nephews and nieces Ruby and Abel Westra, Otto and Edie Jervik; and numerous relatives in Norway.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Anna Maria Hamran, brother Olav (Ole) Hamran and his wife Dorothy Hamran.
