Hawarden, IA: Bette “Betsy” Anderson, 73, of Hawarden, Iowa, died Friday, December 25, 2020, at Hillcrest Health Care Services of Hawarden. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 4, 2021, at 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church of Hawarden with Pastor Stuart Schreur officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery of Hawarden. Public visitation, with no family present, will be held Sunday, January 3, 2021, from 2:00-6:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden. Bette Leigh Anderson, daughter of Lloyd and Ruby (Johnson) Strong, was born February 4, 1947, at Hawarden, Iowa. She was a graduate of Hawarden High School. On November 18, 1980, Betsy was united in marriage with Martin Anderson in Las Vegas, Nevada. Betsy and Martin made their home in Hawarden where they raised their four boys, Jaimie, Eric, Christopher, and Jeremy. Martin died August 18, 1997.
Betsy will be fondly remembered for all the years she watched children in her home. In addition to babysitting, Betsy also spent about 10 years working at Coilcraft and she worked for several years and retired from Northside Body Shop.
Betsy’s grandchildren were her life! She loved having them around and they spent countless hours with her. In addition to her grandchildren, Betsy also spent time working with the youth at First Baptist Church in Hawarden where she was a member. She helped with Awana, Sunday School, Christmas programs, and wherever else she was needed. Betsy was also quite the crafter. She did several crafts over the years, including, yarn ball cats, jean pillows, crocheting baskets, cross stitch, and many more projects. Her memory will live on in those that knew her and she will be greatly missed.
Betsy is survived by her 4 sons, Jaimie (Christine) Strong of Hawarden, Eric Anderson of Hawarden, Christopher (Carrie) Anderson of Williamsburg, Iowa, and Jeremy Anderson of Chatsworth, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jacob, Ethan, Ehren, Haleigh, Kasadee, Gabby, Cooper, Coltyn, Swayze, and Tynleigh; 2 brothers, Lloyd “Sonny” (Betty) Strong and Jon (Vicki) Strong, both of Hawarden; brother-in-law, Ray Weyen of Sioux Center, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lois (Duane) Meether of Hawarden; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Ruby; husband, Martin; and 2 sisters, Donna “Donnie” Draayer and Helen “Babe” Weyen.
