Bill Van Veldhuizen

Rock Valley, IA: William “Bill” Henry Van Veldhuizen, 75, of Rock Valley, Iowa, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 23, at 11:30 AM at Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Pastor Luke Johnston officiating. The service can be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/4077519. Private family burial with military rites will be held prior to the service at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation with the family present will be held Monday, June 22, from 5:30-7:30 PM at Trinity CRC. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.    William Henry Van Veldhuizen, son of John and Stella (Huyser) Van Veldhuizen, was born October 9, 1950, in Le Mars, Iowa and grew up in Doon, Iowa. At the age of 18, Bill was inducted and served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1970. After returning from the war, Bill met Charlene Blankespoor and on August 3, 1973, the couple was united in marriage. They made their home in Hospers, Iowa where Bill worked for Fred’s Plumbing & Heating. In 1979 the couple moved to Rock Valley where they started Rock Valley Plumbing & Heating and raised their 4 daughters, Julie, Amy, Tonya, and Stacy. Bill and Char sold the business in 2018.

   Bill was a humble and caring man whose life was defined by kindness, service, and devotion to his family. Though quiet by nature, he enjoyed the company of others and was always willing to help anyone in need. Faith and family were most important to Bill. He especially looked forward to Sunday gatherings and morning coffee time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and camping near Yankton, was a faithful fan of the Minnesota Twins, and was a member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church. Bill will be remembered for his gentle spirit, generous heart, a good joke, and the quiet way he cared for those around him.

   Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Char; 4 daughters, Julie (Wendell) Van Otterloo, Amy (Ben) Van Der Brink, Tonya Van Veldhuizen, and Stacy (Paul) Remmerde; 9 grandchildren, Dylan (Faith) Van Der Brink, Vaida Van Der Brink (Jackson Lechtenberg), Kassidy Van Der Brink, Ali (Derek) Elgersma, Sam Remmerde, Ryan Van Otterloo, Ike Van Der Brink (Kirsten Grevengoed), Avery Remmerde, and Eva Remmerde; great-grandson, Ozzy Van Der Brink; 2 sisters, Karen (Ron) Post and Alvina Van Veldhuizen (Larry Guy); brother, Leroy (Jaci) Van Veldhuizen; and 9 siblings-in-law, Shirley Kollis (late Cornie Kollis), Ed (Mary) Blankespoor, Harriet (Gene) Potoka, Dick Blankespoor, Nelvina (Harold) Van Voorst, Judy Blankespoor (late Lee Blankespoor), Randy (Shonna) Blankespoor, Darla Vaandrager (late Curt Blankespoor), and Myron (Denise) Blankespoor.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Stella; parents-in-law, John and Gertrude Blankespoor; and 3 brothers-in-law, Curt Blankespoor, Lee Blankespoor, and Cornie Kollis.
