Rock Valley, IA: Bonnie Fay Davelaar, 71, of Rock Valley, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026, at her home, under the loving care of her family. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 18, at 2:00 PM at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. Private family burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be held Wednesday, June 17, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.
Bonnie Fay Davelaar, daughter of Richard and Lyda (Koedam) Van Otterloo, was born on August 17, 1954. She was raised on an acreage near Rock Valley, Iowa, in a large, close-knit family. On November 24, 1972, she married Robert “Bob” Davelaar. Together, the couple raised four children, Stacia, Shawn, Shane, and Craig. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.
Though she was an excellent cook and was very particular about the ingredients that went into her recipes, most of the meal prep of late was left to her spouse who took great care of her through her ill health. Bonnie was a designer at heart and decorated many people's homes through the years. She most recently designed the beautiful and functional home she shared with her husband, Bob, carefully planning every detail. Filled with plants and personal touches, it reflected the life they built together. Grandma's house and Grandpa's shop are where family loves to gather and are always welcome.
Bonnie's faith was an important part of her life and guided the way she lived. She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation. She will be remembered for her faith, love of family and her creativity.
Bonnie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bob; children, Stacia Schulze, Shane (Tamara) Davelaar, and Craig (Sara) Davelaar; son-in-law, Kelly (Gina) Rozeboom; grandchildren, Kyra Schulze, Reese (Shanae) Schulze, Dallas (Erika) Rozeboom, Cole (Dennica) Rozeboom, Austin (Courtney) Rozeboom, Jaxson (Abby) Rozeboom, Tielyr Rozeboom, Cozyn Rozeboom, Tristan Davelaar, Kylan Davelaar, Braelynn Davelaar, Azlynn Davelaar, Myah Davelaar, Olivia Davelaar, Emmery Davelaar, and Owen Davelaar; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Rhonda Klarenbeek, Cheryl (Glenn) Lange, Don (Josie) Van Otterloo, Lorri (Jerry) Schlotfeldt, Rick Van Otterloo, Lisa Groeneweg, and John (Marlys) Van Otterloo; and Bob's siblings, Wayne (Janice) Davelaar, Doug (Helen) Davelaar, and Gretta (Daryl) Van Maanen.
Preceding Bonnie in death were her beloved daughter, Shawn Rozeboom, parents, Richard and Lyda Van Otterloo, parents-in-law, Willie and Henrietta Davelaar; and Bob's infant sibling, Kevin Davelaar.
