In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions which will be designated to a charity of the family’s choosing. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley, Iowa has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements for Mrs. Winterfeld.

Claudette Winterfeld, the daughter of Harvey and Eva (Calhoon) DeRaad, was born on November 8, 1939, in Le Mars, Iowa. She attended country school near Hudson, South Dakota and graduated from Rock Valley Community School in Rock Valley, Iowa in 1957. Claudette worked as a telephone operator in Sioux Falls, South Dakota until 1961.

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald Winterfeld, on December 30, 1961. Donald and Claudette made their home on a farm west of Sioux Center, Iowa for the past 63 years of their married life.

Claudette loved her Lord. She served in many roles at Peace Lutheran Church, as Sunday School teacher and women’s group, but many will remember her as the Youth Director. She touched many lives along the way.

Claudette had a true love for farm life. She had a passion for taking care of the farm help, running errands, cooking meals or taking care of her farm animals. She loved being a part of the busy spring planting and fall harvest. Claudette and Donald still made time to attend as many school activities of their children and grandchildren, not to miss a game.

It was evident that she put other people above her own needs and wants…whether that be her family, her church, or her beloved farm. Without hesitation and with a smile she would put aside her own plans for the day if somebody needed her. That could mean running an errand, watching a grandchild or four, or even just sitting with a listening ear. She loved well and therefore was loved very well in return by so many.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald of Sioux Center, Iowa; 3 sons, Doug Winterfeld of Sioux Center and his children, Corey, Alissa, Kelsi, and Marcus; Dave (Tasha) Winterfeld of Sioux Center, Iowa and their children, Ayden, Asha, Ava, and Adelyn; and Dan (Sara) Winterfeld of Sioux Center, Iowa and their children, Karsyn, Tate, Stella, and Scarlett; 1 daughter, Chari (Cal) DeRuyter of Rock Valley, Iowa and their children, Ben, Mindi, Jenni, and Mike; 24 Great Grandchildren; 1 sister, Conni (Ron) Hulshof of Orange City, Iowa; and 1 sister-in-law, Irene Sneller of Sioux Center, Iowa.

Claudette was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathi Winterfeld; mother, Eva DeRaad; father, Harvey DeRaad; mother-in-law, Martha Winterfeld; father-in-law, Emil Winterfeld; brother-in-law, Martin Sneller; and niece, Kimberly Hulshof
