Valley Springs, SD: Daryl Lee De Groot, 49, of Valley Springs, South Dakota, died Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at his home. A Celebration of Daryl’s Life will be held Tuesday, January 27, at 1:30 PM at Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Henry Lengkeek officiating. The service can be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/4077519. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation with the family present will be held Monday, January 26, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Trinity CRC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Rock Valley Fire Department.
Daryl Lee De Groot, son of Dwaine and Linda (Huyser) De Groot, was born April 24, 1976, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Daryl grew up in Rock Valley, Iowa and was baptized and made Profession of Faith at Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley. He attended Rock Valley Community School, graduating in 1996. Saying he attended school may be an understatement because from the 5th grade through high school graduation, Daryl never missed a day of school. At school Daryl enjoyed playing in the marching band as well as competing on the track team where he finished 3rd in the high jump competition at the Iowa High School Track & Field Championships. After high school he served as a volunteer firefighter for the Rock Valley Fire Department. He also enjoyed spending countless hours restoring a 1953 Chevy Pickup with his dad and brother, Dan.
During high school, Daryl discovered a love for woodworking, He made many wood items that are treasured by family and friends. He turned that joy for woodworking into a job working for The Good Wood Shop in Sioux Center, Iowa and later Hilltop Custom Cabinets, Doors & Trim in Canton, South Dakota. He also spent time working at FedEx and most recently at the warehouse for Southern Glazer’s in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
On May 8, 2008, Daryl met Stephanie Buehner. The following May 8, 2009, the couple got engaged and on May 8, 2010, the couple was united in marriage in Rock Valley, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Raiden, Adelyn, and Kinnick. Daryl’s passions were his family and fishing. Nothing was better than when those two passions were combined, every year, for 40 plus years, when Daryl went on an annual family fishing trip to Minnesota. Daryl was a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr., the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Minnesota Twins. Daryl loved to help family, friends, and neighbors and was always there with a faithful, loving heart, helpful hand, and big smile.
Daryl is survived by his wife, Stephanie of Valley Springs, South Dakota; 3 children, Raiden, Adelyn, and Kinnick De Groot of Valley Springs; parents, Dwaine and Linda De Groot of Rock Valley; sister, Dawn Galvin of Sarasota, Florida; brother, Dan De Groot of Rock Valley; nieces and nephews, Emma (Ian) Wiersma, Kleyton (Emily) De Groot, Tenley De Groot, and Payton Marks; and several in-laws.
Daryl was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond and Katherine Huyser and Rueben and Bernice De Groot.
