Daryl Lee Kruid, son of Adrian and Greeta (Hofland) Kruid, was born May 14, 1961, in Hawarden, Iowa. Daryl grew up in Lebanon, Iowa. Blind at birth, suffering from epilepsy, and unable to learn braille due to reading disabilities, Daryl never let his disabilities define his life. At the age of 5, Daryl began travelling by Greyhound bus to the School for the Blind in Vinton, Iowa. He studied there for 16 years, graduating in 1982. He returned to Northwest Iowa and thrived under the care of Hope Haven where he found joy in working at Parkview Industries and participating in Day Habilitation for the past several years. His favorite job was assembling muffler clamps.
Daryl was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and had a great love for music. He was a charter member of the Hope Haven Gospel Choir which he participated in for 33 years. He also had a love for sports, especially for his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Minnesota Vikings. His sports knowledge was unmatched; he had an uncanny memory and could rattle off stats at a moments notice. He kept up with the action by listening to games on TV or through his well-used radio. Above all, Daryl tried to be a good Christian role model to others. He never complained or felt sorry for himself. He loved learning about God’s love for him, especially through music or his time with The Friendship Bible Study Series.
Daryl is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Adrian Henry Kruid; mother, Greeta Jane Kruid; and an infant sister, Audrey Jean.
