IRETON, IOWA ~ Donald William Van Wyhe, 95, of Ireton, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by his family at the Akron Care Center.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Bertram American Legion Post 276 of Ireton and the Navy Honor Guard. A luncheon will then be held at the Ireton Community Center. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Porter Funeral Home in Ireton is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to the Orange City Hospice and the Care Initiatives of Plymouth County. Donald William Van Wyhe was born on December 12, 1929, in McNally, Iowa, the son of Peter and Helen (Ganzeveld) Van Wyhe. He attended country school until the 8th grade. On December 12, 1950, he joined the United States Navy. On October 13, 1954, he was honorably discharged. When he returned home, he worked for various farmers.
Don and Dorothy Iken were united in marriage on February 25, 1956. They lived on a farm outside of Ireton, Iowa, and in 1965, they moved to the family farm.
Don is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy; children, Lance and Arlette (Wiemold) Van Wyhe, Noreen and Phil Dimick, and Pam and Bruce Wangerin; grandchildren, Luke and Jen Van Wyhe, Krista and Matty Lisbon, Mandi and Steve King, Gus and Erika Briggs, Erica Nelson, Aaron Koob, Cody and Adrianna Star, RaeAnna Wangerin, and Abe and Margarita Arreola; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jeanine Meyer and Daniel Van Wyhe; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Helen Van Wyhe; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Shirley Van Wyhe; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Milton Bauer; brother-in-law, Jerry Meyer; infant daughter, Laura; and stillborn grandson, Jonathan Star.
Don enjoyed farming and everything that came with it.
