HAWARDEN, IOWA ~ Dorothy Hendricks, 94, of Hawarden, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Paul D. Bormann and Father Paul Nguyen concelebrating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be prior to the Mass from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Dorothy’s family prefers memorials be directed to Hillcrest Health Care Services.
Dorothy Lee Hendricks was born February 12, 1929 at Alcester, South Dakota, the daughter of Edwin and Bertha (Keil) Johnson. She graduated from Alcester High School in 1947. Dorothy married the love of her life, Robert Hendricks, on September 11, 1947 at Beresford, South Dakota. Together they made their home in Hawarden, Iowa, where Dorothy was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for her husband’s business. Robert died on May 7, 2016. Dorothy lived the last seven years of her life at Hillcrest Health Care Services.
She was a member of the St. Mary’ Catholic Church in Hawarden and St. Mary’s Guild. She also belonged to the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include six children, Linda and Mick Mapes of Platte City, Missouri, Betty and Brad Schmeets of Hawarden, Mike and Gita Hendricks of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jane and Randy Larson of Hawarden, Julia and Mark Wells of Ireton, Iowa, and Patrick and Mary Hendricks of Hawarden; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Carol Pearson of Alcester; brother-in-law, Fay and Millie Hendricks of Alcester; and her extended family at Hillcrest.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Bertha; husband, Robert; sister, Ihlo Dirks and her husband Carlyle; two brothers, Phillip Johnson and Merrill Johnson and his wife Dorothy Ann; and brother-in-law, Wendel Pearson.
