Duane Alan Ver Mulm

Rock Valley, IA: Duane Alan Ver Mulm, 68, of Rock Valley, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 2, at 11:00 AM at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Dr. Cliff Hoekstra officiating. The service can be livestreamed at https://www.rvfrc.org/. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation with the family present will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 AM at the church. It was Duane’s wish that those in attendance wear their Minnesota Vikings gear!

   Memorial contributions may be directed to Pleasant Acres Care Center. 

   Duane Alan Ver Mulm, son of Harold and Nelva (Vander Sluis) Ver Mulm, was born April 22, 1958, in Canton, South Dakota. Duane grew up in Rock Valley, Iowa and graduated from Rock Valley High School. On May 14, 1982, Duane was united in marriage with Sherry Grady. The couple was blessed with 4 children, Angie, Mark, Tracy, and Kayla.

   Duane began his working years by working for Rock Valley Cement Block and Tile (Van Zee Enterprises) and later Premium Iowa Pork in Hospers, Iowa. After spending time with those companies, Duane obtained his CDL license and used that for driving semi, school bus, and RIDES. In addition to his years of working, he also spent time as a member of the Army National Guard.

   When Duane wasn’t working you would often find him walking. He loved walking and logged many miles walking around Rock Valley. He also enjoyed a good game of cards, especially Pinochle, and an occasional Bingo game. Duane was a big football fan, whether that was cheering on Mark during his high school playing days or rooting for the Minnesota Vikings. In his later years, you could find Duane volunteering with the Senior Companion program.

   Duane is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sherry; 4 children, Angie Ver Mulm of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Mark (Bridget) Ver Mulm of Volga, South Dakota, Tracy Ver Mulm and Kayla (Donald) Hoffman both of Rock Valley; 4 grandchildren, Colton, Jordyn, Haven, and Amelia; a step-granddaughter, Skyler; and 4 siblings, Sharon (Warren) Kroontje of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, David (Debra) Ver Mulm of Sheldon, Iowa, Lois Rassel of Hull, Iowa, and Gale (Steven) Boldt of North Liberty, Iowa.

   Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Nelva; and grandmother, Gertrude Vander Sluis.
