Elizabeth "Betty" De Boer

Rock Valley, IA: Elizabeth “Betty” De Boer, 91, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Whispering Heights of Rock Valley. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 16, at 11:00 AM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. Burial will be held prior to the service at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation will also be held prior to the service from 9:00-10:00 AM at the church. Memorials may be given to Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa.

Elizabeth (Boer) De Boer, daughter of Raymond and Adriana (Groeneweg) Boer, was born July 11, 1926 at the family home southwest of Rock Valley, Iowa. She attended country school by Hudson, South Dakota through the 8th grade. Betty worked as a nurse’s aide at Bethesda in Denver, Colorado prior to getting married. She married Oscar De Boer on October 27, 1948 in Rock Valley, Iowa. Oscar died July 31, 1989.

Betty enjoyed painting, traveling with Oscar and later with friends, playing cards, and she loved the outdoors. She enjoyed listening to her grandchildren’s sporting events and in her younger years she liked to golf. Betty was a very thoughtful person and enjoyed being around people. She chaired the Rock Valley Flower Show for several years. Betty was a devoted member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley and Faith Circle.

She is survived by her 5 children, Sheryl (Jim) Boogerd of Rock Valley, Orwyn (Sue) De Boer of Escondido, California, Judy (Wayne) Feikema of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Bonnie (Kevin) Wolterstorff of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Deb (Brian) Broek of Rock Valley, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; and 2 sisters-in-law, Helen (Boer) Scholten of Rock Valley and Gert Boer of Sioux Center.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Adrianna; husband, Oscar; grandson, Nathan Wolterstorff; and 3 brothers, Peter, Harold, and Laverne Boer.
