Elmer Edwin Tabbert, son of Ludwig and Lydia (Geist) Tabbert, was born in Killdeer, North Dakota on April 18, 1933. Elmer worked construction as an iron worker. In 1968, they bought a farm near Holabird, South Dakota, where they raised their 5 children.

Elmer loved his time with family and enjoyed following his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was always up for a game of pinochle and a good conversation. After retiring to Hudson in 2009, he enjoyed going to coffee at the Senior Center and playing cards in Alcester, South Dakota and Hawarden, Iowa. He also enjoyed supporting and attending the Alcester-Hudson Cubs sporting events. Elmer had a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a great sense of humor. He maintained his strong will, aka being stubborn, right up to the end.

Hi to Elmer's family. I lived in Pierre SD a long time ago and about twice a decade i look at the capjournal. Sorry to hear Elmer passed. In the summer of 1975 i worked on the same crew building the Oahe water pumping plant. He was a very hard worker and knew everything about tieing and fitting rebar. I think he always wore a green hardhat. Everybody else's hat was white or orange. He was a leader and nobody messed with Elmer. He had worked on the Oahe Dam in the early 1960s and he knew his stuff. It is fun to recall that we had pitchers of red beer at Dudley's Valley Tap in Ft Pierre after a sweltering day at the dam. Shuffleboard and arm wrestling. Elmer probably was in his early 40's when we worked together, i was about 20 and he could put me down in an arm wrestling contest in about 7 seconds.

So Sorry to hear about your dad. We was a cool fella. He had come up for a few funerals and since I work there I got the chance to visit with him. It was always nice to see him and get that big ole hug. My prayers are with you all. I will miss his voice and his humor and laugh.
