Inwood, IA: Evelyn M. Brown, 83, of Inwood, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 3, at 10:30 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in rural Inwood with Pastor Jo Kinnard officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date at Richland Cemetery in Inwood. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Friday, March 2 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood. A prayer service will follow the visitation at 7:00 PM.
Evelyn Mae (Johnson) Brown was born May 30, 1934, the daughter of John and Selma (Henning) Johnson in Canton, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Canton Lutheran Church.
In 1946 the family moved north of Canton on a farm and Evelyn completed her grade school at rural Dayton school. They then attended Springdale Lutheran Church. She graduated from Canton High School in 1952, then worked as a nurse aide in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a year before entering Presentation (Avera) School of nursing, graduating in 1956 with a diploma as R.N. degree.
On June 30, 1956 Evelyn married Paul Brown of Inwood, Iowa and they made their home southwest of Inwood on the Henry Ranschau farm. To this union three children were born; David, De Ann and Dennis. Evelyn continued her nursing, working part time and full time for 40 some years.
Evelyn enjoyed baking, crocheting and reading. She also enjoyed all the sports and activities the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were in. Paul and Evelyn moved to town in 1995 and she worked for three more years. In 2005 they wintered in Texas and continued for ten more years.
Grateful for sharing her life are her husband, Paul; son, David (Deloris) Brown of Inwood, Iowa; daughter, De Ann (Bob) Herting of Brandon, South Dakota; son, Dennis (Connie) Brown of Inwood, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Hyronemus of Rock Valley, Iowa.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
