Glenda Rae Van Briesen was born January 13, 1938, to Fritz and Margaret Van Briesen in Sheldon, Iowa. Because her father trained pilots and crop dusted, she spent her childhood in a few different places (including California but mostly Northwest Iowa) until they eventually settled in the George, Iowa area.
She graduated from George High School in 1955 and later attended cosmetology school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, receiving her certification and working in that field for a few years. She married Virgil Krull in 1957, and they had two girls, Billi Sue and Jodi Lynn. They moved several times with Virgil while he was in the Air Force. She relocated back to George after Virgil was killed in Mountain Home, Idaho in the line of duty in 1964.
Glenda married Byron Schrick on July 9, 1966, and moved with him to Huntsville, Alabama, where they lived for 30 years. They had another daughter, Neila. While in Huntsville, Glenda volunteered at their church, including teaching youth Sunday School. Byron and Glenda shared 59 years of marriage together.
They enjoyed many travels together, including Europe, many US destinations (including Alaska), and spent about 20 winters in Weslaco, Texas.
Over the years, Glenda was very involved in volunteering her time, including White Cross, the George Book Sale, as a nursing home liaison and the President of the Women’s Legion Auxiliary for many years. She was also passionate about providing donations for Ukraine relief efforts, the Union Gospel Mission and The Family Connection.
Glenda had a special affection for animals. She fed any stray cat that came near their house until she could find them another home.
Glenda is survived by her husband, Byron; three daughters, Billi (Mike) Duray of Dallas, Texas, Jodi (Clyde) Heflin of Nashville, Tennessee, and Neila Schrick-Aubuchon of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Anne Duray, Alec Duray, Tess Aubuchon, and Ella Aubuchon; and four step-grandchildren, Marissa (Josh) Brinkman, Elijah (Julie) Aubuchon, Charity (Jared) Price, and Heather (Leith) Schmidtlein.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Margaret; and sister, Gloria (Byrl) Hearitige.
