HAWARDEN, IOWA ~ Gloria Jean Green, 81, of Hawarden, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden with Rev. Joshua Lowe officiating. Inurnment will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. also at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. Gloria Jean Green was born April 18, 1943, at Hudson, South Dakota, the daughter of Raymond and Opal (Fickbohm) Keiser. Her father was in road construction and so the family moved a lot when Gloria was a child. She attended West Sioux Schools from Kindergarten to 7th grade and attended a Lutheran Parochial School in Santa Ana, California. Gloria was confirmed while living in California and later graduated from West Sioux in 1961.
Gloria married Larry Green on October 21, 1962, at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden. They made their home in Hawarden where Gloria worked at the Telephone Company and then as a cook at West Sioux High School, Hillcrest Healthcare Services and later in the deli at Fiesta Foods. She and Larry owned the Hawarden Steak House for 12 years.
Gloria was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS where she was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and served on the boards of the Hawarden Golf Club and Hawarden Chamber of Commerce. Gloria enjoyed bike riding, walking and enjoying nature, gardening, reading, cooking and doing circle word puzzles. She and Larry loved to golf together and also play 2 handed pinochle, and Gloria would sometimes win!
Survivors include her three sons and their wives, Jeff Green and Judi of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mike Green and Liz also of Sioux Falls, and Steven Green and Molly of Orange City, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sally Hantsbarger of Hawarden; and special friend, Marlin Janssen of Hawarden.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond in 1978 and Opal on August 27th of this year; and her husband, Larry on February 17, 2020.
