HAWARDEN, IOWA – Harold Glen Pry, 78, of Hawarden, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 surrounded by loving family and under the care of Hospice of Siouxland.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Roger Linnan officiating. Burial of the cremated remains with Military Rites will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Harold was born on February 8, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa to Glen Pry and Lottie Card. Harold attended school in Sanborn, Iowa where he was raised by his father and step mother Norene Pry along with seven sisters and three brothers. Harold joined the United States Air Force in 1956 at the age of 17. On February 7, 1959 he married his high school sweetheart Margaret Horst in Elk Point, South Dakota.

He graduated from Western Iowa Tech Community College with a degree in Animal Science and worked for the USDA as a federal meat inspector for 30 years. Harold and Margaret made their home in Ireton, Iowa and later Hawarden, Iowa where they raised their 7 children. Harold cherished his family and particularly enjoyed having “lovin time” sitting around a camp fire telling stories. He was known for his love of his family, his country, and took pride in living in a small community. Harold was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Two Oaks American Legion Post 254 of Hawarden.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret (Horst) Pry; children, Teresa (Tony) Anderson of Amissville, Virginia, Glen (Louise) Pry of Madison, Alabama, Charlene (fiancé Kent Brown) Pry of Somers, Iowa, Brenda (Bryan) Nohava of Hawarden, Jeannie Pry Critelli of Le Mars, Iowa, Diane (Carlos) DaCosta of Venice, Florida and Harold Pry Jr. of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his mother and step father, Lottie and Fred Card; his father and step mother, Glen and Norene Pry; a grandson, Ethan Pry; and 2 sisters, Jeanette Erickson and Judy Pry.
