Helen Katherine Steinfadt Kool died peacefully February 8, 2024, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. 

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden, Iowa with Rev. Joshua Lowe officiating. Private family committal will be at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday prior to the service, or at the luncheon at the Hawarden Community Center following the service. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Born in Craig, IA, November 2, 1932, she was the 4th child of Emil and Minnie Heuer Steinfadt, of rural Lebanon, IA.

Helen attended grades 1-8 at Garfield #8 Rural School and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1950.  After graduating, she attended business school and worked in Denver and Sioux Falls.  She married Adrian L. Kool February 7, 1958, in Brookings, SD.  They also lived in the Leeds neighborhood in Sioux City, IA, before making Hawarden, IA, their home.

She worked as an office assistant when her boys were young and had a long career as an insurance agent in Hawarden.  Helen and Abe enjoyed traveling, and camping and boating at Lewis and Clark Lake with their children and grandchildren.  She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her three sons, Steven (Ila), Sioux Falls; Terry (Lisa), Sergeant Bluff, IA; and Jeffry (Julie), Akron IA.

She cherished her 8 grandchildren:  Scott (Mandy) Kool, Stuart Kool, and Sam Kool, Sioux Falls; Alisha Saunders, Sergeant Bluff, and Kelsey (Christopher Loutsch) Kool, Remsen, IA; Jadon (Rachel) Kool, Kansas City, MO; Jared (Jacqueline Clines) Kool, Phoenix, AZ, and Jeffrey “JD” Kool, Houston, TX, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Abe; her parents; brother, Orland Steinfadt; sisters, Minerva Steinfadt and Mineva Schneider; in-laws, Darlene Steinfadt, Don Schneider, Rena and Fred Holtrop, Johanna Kool, and Marvin and Patricia Kool.

The family would like to thank Jack and Cindy Andela for years of their care and comfort to Mom, and the Memory Care Unit at the Inn on Westport of Sioux Falls for their care and kindness.

Helen's family requests that memorials be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden, Iowa.
