Hawarden, Iowa~ Jacqueline Jacobs, 87, of Hawarden, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. A luncheon will be held at the Hawarden United Methodist Church after the committal service. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Jacqueline Irvin was born December 3, 1937. She was baptized the spring of 1938. The family moved to Oak Lawn Farm west of Platteville in 1943 where she attended country school. She then went to Bedford High School graduating in 1956. After graduation she worked for Bankers Life in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1962 she married James Jacobs in Bedford, Iowa. They made their home in Hawarden, Iowa where they raised their four children: daughters, Machelle, Tamela, and Deborah and son Mark, who died in an accident in 1979. Jackie and Jim were married for 53 years until Jim passed away on September 7, 2015.
Jackie was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, and Sunday School teacher. She worked at Bomgaars for over 30 years. People still comment on the wonderful customer service she gave them. Jackie walked the few blocks to work almost every day of her employment, rain or shine. Even into retirement she enjoyed her walks downtown to run her errands. She lived in Hawarden until November 2024 when she moved to the Akron Care Center.
Jackie is survived by her children, Machelle Hoines of Yankton, South Dakota, Tamela (Paul) Eilts of Ireton, Iowa, Deborah (Nick Smith) Jacobs of Washington, DC; grandchildren, Joshua (Colleen) Bye, Anna (Leif) Gibler, Elizabeth (Nate) Anderson, William Eilts, and Ellis Eilts; and great grandchildren, Olivia and Madeline Bye, Leo, Coen, and Peyton Anderson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, June Irvin, along with many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Preceding Jackie in death were her husband, James Jacobs; parents, Robert A. and Edna Irvin; son, Mark Jacobs; son-in-law, Mark Hoines; granddaughter, Elise Eilts; siblings, Lois Williams, Leonard Irvin, Dorothy Meyers, Helen Irvin, Velma Shepherd, Annalea Gilbert, and James Irvin.
Her love for family was strong and unconditional. She will be deeply missed by all of them.
