HAWARDEN, IOWA- JaNohn Wasser, age of 94 years, 11 months, and 9 days, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Rev. Barb Joy officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, with the family present beginning at 5:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. JaNohn Wasser was born on December 30, 1921 in Newman Grove, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles and Rachel (Kaarstadt) Rosenberg. She graduated from Wayne State College. JaNohn began her teaching career at Hawarden, Iowa where she taught high school chemistry, biology, and physics. She married Hobert Wasser on December 23, 1945 at Wayne, Nebraska. They lived on the Wasser farm south of Hawarden where they began raising their 5 children. They moved into Hawarden in 1964. JaNohn returned to teaching at the Ireton junior high in 1963, before retiring after more than 20 years. Hobert died October 26, 1990.
JaNohn was very active in Hawarden activities, a community she dearly loved. She was involved at her United Methodist Church and church circle, the MIC, and the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store. JaNohn could always be found with her dear friend Lois Jean Dawson, working at and promoting Calliope Village.
She will be greatly missed by the people of Hawarden and her family members, her children, Chuck Wasser of Harlem, Montana, Sandra Adams and husband Steven of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Jim Wasser of Lincoln, Nebraska, Judy Reifschneider and husband Larry of Louisville, Colorado, and Jerry Wasser and wife Karon of Park City, Utah; a niece who lived with JaNohn and Hobert, Rhonda Boisvert and husband Steve of Amarillo, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
JaNohn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hobert; twin sisters at birth; 2 daughters-in-law, Sandy Wasser and Marva Wasser; and a granddaughter, Cynthia Lee Wasser.
JaNohn had a huge heart for Hawarden and the special gift for seeing the best in everyone.
