IRETON, IOWA ~ Jean Bertram, 81, of Ireton, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden, Iowa.
   Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Porter Funeral Home in Ireton is assisting the family.  The funeral service will be taped and then available on the church Website page, Facebook page, and YouTube page.
   The family prefers memorials be directed to Orange City Area Hospice or to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
   Jean Ann Bertram was born November 30, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of David and Ellen (Eyres) Hamilton. The family moved to Le Mars, Iowa where she graduated from the Union Consolidated School in 1961. Jean attended Westmar College for 2 years after graduating from high school. She then began working for Plymouth Farmers Mutual in Le Mars.
   Jean married Allan “Bic” Bertram August 29, 1964, at the First Presbyterian Church in Le Mars. Together they made their home on the Bertram family farm north of Ireton where they raised their 3 children, Carolyn, Lori, and Mark. They moved off the farm into Ireton in January 2006.
   Jean worked outside of the home after her children graduated from high school, eventually working at Coilcraft in Hawarden for 25 years and retiring in 2018. She was a 4-H leader for 10 years and the organist at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton for 57 years. Jean also volunteered her time on various West Sioux School committees.
   She is survived by her 3 children, Carolyn Bertram of Ireton, Lori Bertram of Brookings, South Dakota and Mark Bertram and his wife Hilary and their 3 children, Carson, Mason, and Addison; a brother, Robert Eyres Hamilton of Le Mars; 2 sisters-in-law, Cindy Hamilton of Chariton, Iowa and Joyce Rosenboom of Lexington, Kentucky; 2 brothers-in-law, Jim and Gloria Bertram of La Crosse, Wisconsin and Tom and Delores Bertram of Sioux City, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
   Jean was preceded in death by her husband Allan “Bic” Bertram on April 4, 2006; her grandparents, Ernest and Bertha Eyres and John and Loca Hamilton; her parents, David and Ellen Hamilton; infant sister, Jo Ellen; 2 brothers, Thomas David Hamilton and John Ernest Hamilton; parents-in-law, Dorothy Nicholson Bertram and Lorenz and Harriet Bertram; and siblings-in-law, Jean Eilers, Chuck Bertram, Larry Bertram, and Karen Brockmann.
