Jeanette Laackmann

Doon, IA: Jeanette Laackmann, 88, of Doon, Iowa died Friday, December 28, 2018 at Sanford Rock Rapids Medical Center in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Memorial services will be held Monday, December 31 at 11:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church of Doon with Pastor Brogan Mohlenkamp and Pastor Steve Swenson officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at Doon’s Hillside Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Sunday, December 30 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa.

Jeanette (Hofstra) Laackmann was born December 27, 1930, the daughter of Peter and Frances (Vander Ploeg) Hofstra near Doon, Iowa. She married Ervin Laackmann on June 2, 1952 in Luverne, Minnesota. Together they farmed in the Doon and Rock Rapids area and later moved to Doon. Jeanette drove school bus for 44 years and after retiring was a foster grandma at the Rock Valley Community School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Jeanette cherished her time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Jeanette is survived by her children, Cindy (Dean) Oldenkamp of Sheldon, Iowa; Judy Burrell of Key West, Florida; Ervin Laackmann Jr. of Waseca, Minnesota; and David (Denise) Laackmann of Doon, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Frances; husband, Ervin; brothers, Dick, Richard, Garret, and Peter Jr.; sister, Geraldine Vande Vegte; and granddaughter, Cristina Lee Laackmann.
