Jennie Den Besten

ROCK VALLEY, IOWA – Jennie Den Besten, 86, of rural Rock Valley, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley.

   Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Doon Protestant Reformed Church in Doon, Iowa with Rev. Allen Brummel officiating. Private family interment will be prior to the service at Hillside Cemetery at Doon. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/@doonprc9697/live. Visitation with the family will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church. The Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley is assisting the family. Jennie’s family prefers memorials be directed to Northwest Iowa Protestant Reformed School in Doon.

   Jennie was born on September 13, 1936, on a farm west of Sioux Center, Iowa to Walter and Nancy (DeVries) Blom.  She attended country school through 8^th grade and graduated from Sioux Center High School.  On February 14, 1957, Jennie was united in marriage to William (Bill) Den Besten.  They lived on a farm north of Rock Valley for 66 years.  In December of 2020 Jennie moved to Fellowship Village in Inwood, Iowa.

   Jennie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bill Den Besten; three daughters and their husbands, Nancy (Darlo) Zeutenhorst of Orange City, Iowa, LaVonne (Daryl) Warntjes of Hull, Iowa, and Patricia (Steven) Hilt of rural Sioux Center; 12 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by two brothers, Walter Blom of Rock Valley and Raymond (Susan) Blom of San Antonio, Texas; and Bill’s family, brother-in-law, Bernard  Kamminga of Kentwood, Michigan; and sister-in-law, Henrietta Den Besten of Sioux Center. 

   Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nancy Blom; two sisters and their husbands, Elizabeth (Clarence) Groenewold and Grace (Charles) Klein; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Blom. She was also preceded in death by Bill’s family, John and Helen Den Besten, Bernard Den Besten, Andrew and Ellen Van Den Top, Adrianna Den Besten, and Henrietta Kamminga.
