Jerry Dean Meins was born May 29, 1947, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Otto and Bernadine (Muth) Meins. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at his home in Missouri City, Texas, at the age of 78.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. A time of lunch and fellowship will be at the Ireton Community Center following the burial. Jerry grew up in Hawarden, Iowa, and later attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he began preparing for a career that would become his life’s work. He dedicated many years to athletic training, serving at the University of Southern California, the Houston Oilers, and the Houston Aeros. He later continued his work through Methodist Hospital, where he supported high school athletic programs and worked closely with the student-athletes. Jerry was deeply respected in his profession, known for his steady presence, knowledge, and genuine care for those her served.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Margene Meins of Missouri City, Texas; his brother, Larry Meins (Clarene) of Vermillion, South Dakota; his aunt, Evelyn (Meins) Taggart of Vermillion, South Dakota; his nephew, Ric Meins (Britney) of Vermillion, South Dakota; and his nieces, Valarie Hower (Robin) of Vermillion, South Dakota, Holly Meins of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Lizzy Meins of Vermillion, South Dakota. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is also survived by his extended family on his wife’s side, including his brothers-in-law, Paul Johnson (Cindy) and Dick Johnson (Debbie); his sisters-in-law, Linda Murphy, Pam Stricker (Steve), and Gloria Ping (Chad); along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Bernadine Meins; his niece, Ashley Meins; his father and mother-in-law, Ervin and Marjorie Johnson; his brothers-in-law, Robert Murphy, Bob Johnson, and Tom Johnson; and his sisters-in-law, Dixie Johnson and Sandy Johnson. He was also preceded in death by many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Meins and Muth families.
Jerry will be remembered for his quiet strength and the steady faith that shaped his life. He found joy in helping others, in his work, and in the relationships, he built over the years. His legacy is one of compassion, integrity, and unwavering faith.
