Joan Faye Post was born on August 11, 1948, in Sioux Center, Iowa, to Edward and Alyda (Kraayenbrink) Van Maanen. She graduated from Stewart’s Beauty School in 1968 and went on to run a successful beauty shop from her home for 35 years. Through her warm personality and passion for beauty, Joan built lasting relationships with her clients, who often became lifelong friends.

On April 30, 1969, Joan married Marvin Post, and together they built a life in Doon, Iowa. A devoted member of the First Reformed Church, Joan found joy and purpose in her faith, actively engaging in various church activities. Marv and Joan also opened their home to children in need, serving as foster parents for many years while raising their own children. She also contributed to her community as a member of the Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

She took immense pride in her family, always showing up to support her grandkids at Alcester-Hudson Cubs events. She and Marv loved to travel together and often took rides in their yellow Jeep. Joan also enjoyed frequent lunch and shopping dates with her two granddaughters, Shenia and Elly. Each Friday at 3:00 pm sharp, she could be found hosting her coffee crew at home, her cherished weekly tradition.

After the passing of her husband, Marv, Joan found a sense of belonging while volunteering at the local coffee shop in Doon, where she connected with her many friends. She also found a new hobby in water aerobics, attending several times a week. Above all, spending time with her family was the primary joy of her life.

Joan will be missed greatly by her family and her community, whose lives she touched with her kindness and warm smile.

Joan is survived by her four children, Shana (Brett) Doering of Alcester, South Dakota, Bobbi Jo (Lance) Johnson of Ridgway, Colorado, Monte (Rachel) Post of Canton, South Dakota, and Michael Post of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Shenia (Gabe) King, Gavin (Jordyn) Doering, Jaxon Doering, and Elly Doering; siblings, Evertt (Hedy) Van Maanen, Mary Ann (Earl) De Bey, Linda (Bruce) Kooima, Marv (Melinda) Van Maanen, Randy (Sue) Van Maanen, and Brad Van Maanen; and siblings-in-law, Kenneth (Tracy) Post, Wilma Van Bemmel, and Janet Post.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Post; parents, Edward and Alyda Van Maanen; and brothers-in-law, Willard Post and Alvin Van Bemmel.
