Ireton, Iowa - Joann Winterfeld, 88, of Ireton, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Hawarden, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. NO FAMILY VISITATION MONDAY. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The family prefers memorials be directed to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the charity of their choice.

Joann Arlene Winterfeld, the daughter of Evert and Agnes (Vander Mei) Vande Hoef was born March 10, 1929 near Hawarden, Iowa. She married Julius Winterfeld on March 10, 1947 in the Peace Lutheran Parsonage near Sioux Center, Iowa. Five children were born of this union, Judy, Sharon, Diane, Paul, and Lori. They farmed near Ireton, Iowa for 28 years. Julius died July 22, 2000.

Joann was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was known to all as Grandma Joann. She was a loving Christian example to her family and friends. Grandma Joann baby sat over 150 children. She was a charter member of the St. Paul’s Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School. Joann loved to play piano by ear and sang her whole life. She was an avid gardener and loved to can. Joann made the best potato salad in the world. She had the cleanest laundry in town and could patch any pair of jeans. She was grateful for her hard- working sons-in-law.

Survivors include her children, Judy Woehler of Benkelman, Nebraska, Sharon (Fred) Peters of Littleton, Colorado, Diane (Darold) Jamtgaard of Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Lori (Ral) Longworth of Montevideo, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 2.5 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Agnes Kleinhesselink of Hixon, Tennessee and Charlene (Dean) Lill of Hawarden, Iowa; 3 sisters-in-law, Hazel Vande Hoef of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Mary Vande Hoef of Aurora, Colorado, and Phyllis Winterfeld of Ireton, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Duane (Marlene) Winterfeld of Le Mars, Iowa.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Paul Winterfeld; grandson, Ben Winterfeld; 5 brothers; 2 sisters; and 2 brothers-in-law.
