John Ray Searcy was born the youngest of Herald and Gladys (Bishop) Searcy on July 16, 1957, in Des Moines, Iowa. At a young age, John moved to Rock Valley, Iowa where he attended Hope Haven. He then lived in several other towns throughout Iowa before he settled back in Rock Valley in 2011.
Johnny found joy in finding treasures in everyone else’s “junk”. He had many collections, his toy tractors being his prized possessions. He was a hard worker and could always be found driving around town in his tractor or headed out to Post Metal Recycling with a load of scrap. John loved hanging out at Tri-State Repair and lending a helping hand. He enjoyed fishing, “coffee” (Mt. Dew) at Cenex, buying and selling at flea markets, going to church, side by side adventures with the guys and tractor pulls. He had a big heart and did a great job keeping the town of Rock Valley looking good. Johnny was loved by so many and will be missed.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Herald and Gladys; siblings, Eva Howe, Patricia Searcy, Glenda Hansen, Beverly Toole and Jackson Searcy; and the love of his life, Mavis.
