Julie Ann Hayden

Omaha, NE: Julie Ann Hayden, 80, of Omaha, Nebraska, died Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at St. Joseph Villa of Omaha. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 18, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Rock Valley, Iowa with Father Mauro Sanchez celebrating the mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation will be held prior to the mass from 10:00-11:00 AM at the church.

   Julie Ann Hayden, daughter of Earl William and Pauline (Appel) Hayden, was born February 23, 1945, at Rock Valley, Iowa. Julie grew up in Rock Valley attending Rock Valley Community School which she graduated from in 1963. She then went on to attend Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1969. While at Wayne State, Julie loved participating in theater productions. She enjoyed being the star role in The Bad Seed and The Corn is Green. Julie later went on to receive her Master of Science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1974.

   Julie made her home in Omaha, Nebraska and spent 30 plus years working as a teacher and librarian in the Omaha Public Schools. From 1969-1971 she was at McMillan Middle School and then Julie transitioned to Central High School from 1971-1977 and she finished her career working at Morton Middle School from 1977 until her retirement in 2000. Julie was a member of the St. Cecilia Cathedral Parish in Omaha. Julie had an eye for beauty and that showed in the many treasured collections she had.

   Julie is survived by her sister, Margaret Bonthuis of Sioux City, Iowa; nieces; nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Pauline; two sisters, Lorraine Schieffer and Karen Hayden; and two brothers-in-law, Ed Schieffer and Ken “Knute” Bonthuis.
