Julie Diane Waterman was born September 26, 1966 in Sioux City, Iowa, to Perry and Charlene (Allen) Dean. She was raised primarily in Elk Point, South Dakota and attended Elk Point High School.
Julie married Robert James Knie April 27, 1984 in Elk Point, South Dakota. They moved to Fort Lewis, Washington with the military where she gave birth to their daughter Emily in October 1986. She gave birth to their son Ryan, in Sioux City, Iowa in 1990. She obtained her CNA in Savannah, Georgia while Robert was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield. She found a love of taking care of the elderly ranging from home health care to nursing homes. Such as military life takes a toll on marriages, Julie moved back to Chatsworth, Iowa in the summer of 2000. On June 24, 2003 Julie and Marty Layne Waterman were married and settled in Chatsworth. She worked a variety of positions in nursing homes, assisted living, Human Resources for Plasticology, and front desk at the Hawarden Harvest Inn.
Julie loved reading, spending time with her family and her favorite people in the world, her grandchildren. She was a huge animal lover; she always had several dogs and could never turn away a stray. She was an avid Vikings fan and loved the color purple.
Julie is survived by her mother, Charlene Barrett of Akron, Iowa; her husband, Marty Waterman of Chatsworth, Iowa; her son, Ryan (Jennie) Knie of Alton, Iowa; her daughter, Emily (Julie) Knie of Chatsworth; Marty’s children, Kody Waterman of Akron, Kayla (David) Schurch of Beresford, South Dakota, Karlton Waterman of Akron, and Josh Waterman of Cherokee, Iowa; her brothers, Jody (Rebecca) Frye of Yankton, South Dakota, Jamie (Rhonda) Frye of Chatsworth, Jerry (Pamela) Frye of Akron, and Jeffery (Kimberly) Dean of Papillion, Nebraska; and grandchildren, Rylan, Micah, Vincent, Kaden, Jaxson, Jace, Kendra, Chase, and Carter.
