June Mae Halma was born June 5, 1930, to Ole and Lena (Monen) Hetlet near Larchwood, Iowa. She attended a country school near Larchwood and graduated from Inwood High School. After high school, June was employed at Fenns & Woolworths 5 and 10 Store. She married Roger Halma at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Inwood, where she was baptized and confirmed.
June was a member of Inwood Christian Reformed Church where she was active in Calvinettes, Willing Workers, Crossroads Prison Ministry and various committees. She was employed at the Inwood Herald for 22 years. Her family and friends will always remember June for her strong faith, love of cooking, baking pies, gardening, playing cards, making lefsa, family traditions, music, and giving gifts.
Grateful for having shared her life is her husband of 68 years, Roger; 5 children, Dianne (Nick) Saavedra of Oxnard, California, Daryl (Carla) Halma of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Pam (Rick) Van Heerde of Colton, South Dakota, Terry Halma and Sue (Curt) Faber, both of Inwood; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Lena; 4 brothers, Olaf, Odin, Oliver, and LeRoy Hetlet; sister, Myrtle; and daughter, Evelyn Rose.
