Karen Kieboom

Rock Valley, IA: Karen Kieboom, 90, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 17, at 10:30 AM at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Rock Valley with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. The service can be audio streamed at http://nrc-rock-valley.mixlr.com. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation with the family present will be held Tuesday, December 16, from 6:00-7:30 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

   In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials which may be directed to Netherlands Reformed Senior Living (NRSL).

   Karen Kieboom, daughter of Cornelis and Ibeltje (Den Buter) Steenks, was born July 9, 1935, at Lisse, The Netherlands. Karen grew up in the Netherlands and in 1958 she immigrated to Artesia, California. On May 4, 1959, Karen was united in marriage with Rev. Leonard Kieboom. The couple was blessed with three children, Arline, Ella, and Andrew.

   In 1962 they moved to Norwich, Ontario, Canada after her husband accepted a call, and in 1971 they were called to move to Sheboygan, Wisconsin. When her husband became emeritus in 1982, they moved to Lynden, Washington. In 1996 they made their home in Rock Valley, Iowa. Her dear husband passed away on July 7, 2000.

   Karen was a lifetime member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation, which was a great part of her life. She enjoyed needlework and loved flowers. Karen loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to the birth of two more great-grandchildren and her first great-great-grandchild.

   Karen is survived by her three children, Arline (Dan) De Roon of Harrisburg, South Dakota, Ella (Wilmer) Fluit of Doon, Iowa, and Andrew (Mary) Kieboom of Vicksburg, Michigan; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Ria Baaij of Lisse, The Netherlands; sister-in-law, Caroline Steenks of Lisse, The Netherlands; brother-in-law, Peet Hobo of Lisse, The Netherlands; and many nieces and nephews from The Netherlands.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelis and Ibeltje; husband, Rev. Leonard Kieboom; infant sister, Marry Steenks; sister, Corrie Hobo; brother, Wim Steenks; sister-in-law, Sien Steenks; brother, Cees Steenks; and brother-in-law, Toon Baaij.
