Katherine Karol Pedersen was born on March 9, 1931 in Minneapolis to Leon and Wilma (Reimers) Kollman. She graduated from Lakeville High School and received a medical technology degree in Minneapolis.
She moved to Inwood and started working for Dr. Bullock. It was here in Inwood that she met the love of her life, Don, whom she married on August 28, 1951. Karol always said that her life began when she moved to Inwood. Shortly after their marriage, they moved into her grandmother’s home, which was across the alley where Don grew up. Don’s Mom, Maria, was a great life mentor to her.
Karol and Don raised four children in this home, Koni, Kathy, Jim, and Nancy. In addition to being a full-time mother, she loved flower gardening, canning, cooking, sewing, knitting and playing Mah Jong. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Women’s Church Circle. They enjoyed camping and boating at lake Okoboji. In addition, Don and Karol traveled extensively throughout 67 years of marriage. Of all the places they traveled, one of her favorites was Sanibel, Florida, where she loved shelling on the beaches.
Karol is survived by 3 daughters: Koni (Paul) Schiller of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Kathy (Ron) Scholten of Coralville, Iowa, and Nancy (Bruce) Schlotfeldt of Lake Charles, Louisiana; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special friend Colleen Miles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, her beloved husband Don, and her son Jim.
Blessed be her memory.
