Konrad's story began on September 13, 1969, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, where he was born to Kenneth and Tracy (Van Anken) Post. He was later joined by his younger brothers, Craig and Jim, and together the three boys were raised on the family farm just outside of Doon, Iowa—a place that would forever shape who Kon was. Their childhood was spent along the river, surrounded by wildlife and endless opportunities for adventure. Hunting, trapping, fishing, and countless mischievous adventures became some of his most treasured memories. Kon attended Central Lyon Schools, where he developed the friendships and work ethic that stayed with him throughout his life.
While Kon enjoyed many things in life, nothing compared to being a dad. His children, Gracia and Spencer, were among his greatest joys, and one of his favorite titles later became "Papa Kon." His four grandchildren—Ezra, Evangeline, Paxtyn, and Callum—captured his heart completely. Few things brought him more happiness than making them laugh, telling stories, and creating memories they will carry with them forever.
Kon spent much of his career working in heavy equipment before finding the work he truly enjoyed at Cooperative Farmers Elevator (CFE), where he eventually became the liquid spray plant manager. For 15 years he faithfully served there until his cancer diagnosis, taking pride in working hard, showing up for others, and doing every job well. He also served on the Doon Fire Department for 9 years, a responsibility he considered both an honor and a privilege.
To know Kon was to know kindness. He never met a stranger and would gladly give someone the shirt off his back without expecting anything in return. His generosity, easygoing spirit, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression.
He was also known for his unforgettable sense of humor. Kon had a gift for making people laugh, often with one of his legendary "Kon-isms"—wonderfully odd, quick-witted one-liners that somehow only he could deliver. Even on difficult days, he found ways to bring joy to those around him.
An avid outdoorsman, Kon found peace in God's creation. Hunting and fishing weren't simply hobbies—they were where he felt most at home. Yet those who loved him also knew he loved air conditioning just as much. There was almost always a fan blowing on him, no matter the season—a small quirk that will bring smiles for years to come.
More than anything else, Kon loved Jesus. His faith was the quiet foundation of his life, and during his battle with cancer it became the anchor that held him fast. He clung to the promises of God with remarkable peace, humility, and courage, looking toward eternity with confidence—not because of anything he had done, but because of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Even as his earthly strength faded, his trust in his Savior never did.
Above all, Kon will be remembered for the way he loved people. He lived simply, laughed often, worked hard, and cared deeply. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, humor, faith, and love for his family.
Kon is survived by his children, Gracia (Jon) Harmsen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Spencer (Kacyn) Post of Doon; his cherished grandchildren, Ezra and Evangeline Harmsen, and Paxtyn and Callum Post; his parents, Kenneth and Tracy Post of Doon; his brothers, Craig (Sara) Post of Doon, and Jim (Mereta) Post of Iron Mountain, Michigan; his nieces, Hailey and Autumn; his nephew, Levi; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and an abundance of dear friends who became family.
He was preceded in death by seven infant grandchildren; his uncles, Marvin Post, Willard Post, and Alvin Van Bemmel; his aunts, Joann Post, Suzanne Van Anken, and Kathy Van Anken; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
