Kory was born on October 23, 1995, to Tim and Lori (Klein) Bonnema in Orange City, Iowa. He was the second of three children.
Kory proudly attended Rock Valley Community School District. He was a proud Rockets and Nighthawks fan, and he spent many nights cheering loudly with his family.
Kory participated in the Special Olympics for several years, competing in basketball and bowling, although bowling was his favorite.
His childhood memories were filled with the love and laughter of his friends and family at the campground in Yankton, South Dakota. He enjoyed biking, hanging out under the awning with his dog, Tucker, starting campfires, and lighting fireworks on the Fourth of July.
Growing up, Kory loved playing video games, carrying books and mini American flags, playing with friends, and going on walks. Kory also enjoyed listening to music, always making sure the radio was tuned to the Life 96.5 station. Kory was always in the mood for ice cream, preferably a banana split. His laughter was contagious as he loved telling people jokes and making others smile and laugh as well.
Kory cherished spending time with his family, and he had a special place in his heart for his grandparents. He loved the Lord with all his heart and always enjoyed “Jesus Loves Me” being sang.
Most recently, Kory lived at Bluff View Home through Mid-Step Services in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. He was loved by many of those who worked and lived with him there.
Kory is survived by his parents, Tim and Lori Bonnema; his siblings, Kyle (Kailyn) Bonnema and Kortnie (Daniel) DeBoer and a niece, Eliza DeBoer. Hs is also survived by his grandparents, Dick and Harriet Bonnema, and Lyle Klein; his aunt and uncles, Jolene (John) Horstman, Bryan (Mandy) Bonnema, and Brian Damstra; along with many cousins.
Kory was preceded in death by his grandma, Linda Klein; and aunt, Lisa Damstra.
Kory has saved many lives through organ donation, which he would have been very honored to do.
