LaVonne Slife

Hawarden, Iowa~ LaVonne R. Slife, 88, of Hawarden, Iowa passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Unity Point Health-St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Father Doug Klein officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 6:00 p.m. Monday, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. LaVonne was born April 1st, 1927 in Remsen, Iowa to Frank and Barbara Beelner. LaVonne graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Remsen in 1944. She married her husband, Earl, in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1953.
LaVonne was a devoted volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop and co- Citizen of the Year in 2002 for the city of Hawarden. She was an avid bridge player and golfer. LaVonne was also a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her five daughters: Pam (Chris) of Henderson, Nevada, Jeri (Bob) of Hawarden, Julie (Tom, deceased) of Rio Verde, Arizona, Cynthia (Steve) of Fair Oaks, California and Jane (Henry) of Blanchard, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren: Kristen, Jodie, Jamie, Jason, Bobbie, Andrea, Brooke, Nick, Ann and Tracy; and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Helen (Orville) Heuer of Sun City, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl; and siblings: Rose, Catherine, Mary, Math, Michael, Arnold, and Elsie.
