LeRoy Twombley

Inwood, IA: LeRoy Twombley, 82, of Inwood, Iowa died Saturday, March 5, 2016 at his residence in Inwood. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Celebrate Church-Meadows Location 3211 S. Shirley Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57106. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood, Iowa. LeRoy was born November 1, 1933 in Artesian, South Dakota the son of Bernard and Irene (Flagel) Twombley. LeRoy graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. After college, he honorably served our country in the United States Army from 1955-1957. On July 28, 1957, LeRoy married Maralyn Bassett in Watertown, South Dakota. LeRoy taught vocational agriculture in rural South Dakota. He then moved to Inwood, Iowa where LeRoy owned and operated the Arrow Lanes Bowling Alley. Afterwards, he worked at the lumber yard. LeRoy also held various part time jobs including working at Sunshine Foods in Sioux Falls and was a custodian at West Lyon School where he was also inducted into the West Lyon Hall of Fame in 2014.

LeRoy loved watching all West Lyon sporting events and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Sticking close to his roots, he was a farmer at heart and was an avid fisherman and hunter. LeRoy’s love for people was evident in his ability to visit with anyone and everyone.

LeRoy is survived by his wife, Maralyn of Arlington, SD; sons, Greg Twombley of suburban Washington DC, Wayne (Jennifer) Twombley of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Jim Twombley of Inwood, IA; grandchildren, Jacob, Emily, Andrew, Lindsey, Tyler Twombley, Lauren LoPrimo, and Todd Twombley; great-grandchildren, Connor Twombley, Benjamin and Sebastian LoPrimo; sisters, Beulah Stolz of Ft. Worth, TX and Lola (Doyce) Busch of Pierre, SD.
