Lois Eileen Van Egdom was born October 28, 1936, in Lincoln County, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Nora (Miller) Schneider. She lived in South Dakota until the age of eight, when they moved to a farm near Hawarden, Iowa. Lois attended country school and Hawarden High School, where she graduated from in 1954. She was employed at Otis Radio for three years.

Lois married Donald Van Egdom on February 12, 1955, in Luverne, Minnesota. They lived in Hawarden until 1958, when she joined her husband in Erlangen, Germany. They also lived in Sioux Center, Iowa, but returned to Hawarden, where they lived until 2005, when they retired to Sioux Center. In February of 2022, they moved to Aspen Heights in Hull, Iowa and then in January of 2025, they moved to Crown Pointe Estate in Sioux Center.

Don and Lois loved traveling and were fortunate to go to Africa, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, and many other destinations. She was the driving force in going to Africa since she collected elephants for many years and wanted to see them in the wild, Before her passing, she blessed each one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with one of her elephants.

Lois loved Jesus, and it showed in all she did. She was a kind, generous, loving soul, who listened with her heart. Lois had a beautiful smile that lit up her eyes and a heart of gold. She loved her family and supported them. Her greatest hope was that her family would know and trust in the Lord. She attended so many activities of her grandkids and great-grandkids and enjoyed being able to do so. Lois loved nature and loved being on the farm near Oak Grove Park, taking many walks enjoying God’s creation. She fed birds and loved all of the pets that the family had. She loved flowers and gardening and passed that love to many of her family members. Lois was a homemaker and farmer’s wife and so much more! Ultimately she was the glue that held the family together.

The love of her life, Don, passed away March 29, 2025. They had just celebrated 70 years together. Once he passed, Lois was lonely and missed him so much.

Left to cherish her memory are five daughters, Donine Ruhland of Omaha, Nebraska, Lori Peterson (Brent) of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Rachele Warner (Darrell) of Sioux Center, Stacey Johnson (Stuart) of Hawarden, Jamie Moothart of Hawarden, and one son, Robert Van Egdom (Michelle), living in Bellevue, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Kircher of Akron, Iowa; brother, Wendell Schneider (Virlene) of Akron; and many nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters; two brothers; a sister-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
