Lydia De Boer

Rock Valley, IA: Lydia De Boer, 93, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Whispering Heights at Rock Valley. Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. Private family burial will be at Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley. Visitation with the family present will be 6:30-7:30 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2015 at Porter Funeral Home at Rock Valley. Lydia De Boer was born December 1, 1921 to Will and Jennie (Vugteveen) Wynia at rural Rock Valley, Iowa. She married Art De Boer on April 10, 1941 at Rock Valley. They farmed north of Rock Valley until they retired in 1982. In November 1983 they moved to Rock Valley. Art passed away on March 7, 1985.

Lydia worked for Arend's Clothing for many years and was involved with 4-H and Farm Bureau Women, as well as Bible Studies. She was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church. Lydia volunteered many years at Hope Haven and the Rock Valley Senior Center.

Lydia is survived by her daughter, Helene (Van Grootheest) & Les Gayer of Orange City, Iowa; sons, Wilmer & Linda De Boer of Tucson, Arizona and Jay & Verna De Boer of Graham, Washington; sister, Wilma Altena and sisters-in-law, Joyce Vander Well & Betty De Boer; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren, and step great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by son-in-law, Ted Van Grootheest, an infant granddaughter, two brothers, Henry and Johanna Wynia and Pier Wynia; and brother-in-law, Sam Altena.
