Lyle Loren Heyden

Sioux Falls, SD: Lyle Loren Heyden, 96, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly Alvord, Iowa died Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society – Sioux Falls Center. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 11, at 10:00 AM at Porter Funeral Home of Inwood, Iowa with Pastor Corilee Boer officiating. Burial will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery of Alvord. Visitation with the family present will be held Friday, October 10, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Inwood.

   Lyle Loren Heyden was born April 21, 1929, to Ferd and Dora (Mundt) Heyden in Lester, Iowa. Lyle grew up near Alvord, Iowa and graduated from Alvord High School. He was united in marriage to Lois Serck on June 5, 1948, at Christ Lutheran Church in Alvord. To this union they had four children. Together, Lyle and Lois farmed in the Lyon County, Iowa and Tyler, Minnesota areas until moving to Inwood, Iowa in 1981 to own and operate the Town and Country Drive Inn. In 1990, they retired and delivered motor homes around the country. Lois died in 2007. Lyle moved to Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in December of 2021.

   Lyle found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved dancing to polkas and waltzes and taught himself to play the accordion entirely by ear, a talent that brought music to many gatherings. He enjoyed riding horses, working with wood, and never turned down a good card game, especially Pinochle. Lyle also had a sweet tooth and was especially fond of chocolate popcorn.

   Lyle is survived by his three sons, Vic (Karen) Heyden of Larchwood, Iowa, Jeff (Cindy) Heyden of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Mike Heyden of Panama City Beach, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Vernon Serck of Inwood, Iowa.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferd and Dora; wife, Lois; daughter, Sandra Sue Heyden; and great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Marie Heyden.
