Obituary

Marjorie “Marge” Mae Bauder, age 88, died peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Akron, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday afternoon, May 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden, Iowa, with Rev. Dr. Joshua Lowe officiating. Her family will greet friends following the service. The Memorial Service will be livestreamed on the Trinity Lutheran Church Facebook page.

Marge was born on April 8, 1938, on the family farm east of Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Wilhelmina (Gayer) Bauder. She was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Marge graduated from Hawarden High School. While attending Hawarden High, Marge participated in Girls Glee Club, class plays, and attended Girls State in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

On June 26, 1959, Marge married Donald Dimmick. In June of this year (2026), they would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Marge and Don were life-long residents of Hawarden and had many wonderful friends and neighbors there. Shortly after they were married, they started their home in a basement foundation where they lived several years before building it up to their life-long home, where all their children grew up. They lived at this residence until moving to Mica Hill Assisted Living in Hawarden.

Marge worked several years as a teller at the Farmer’s State Bank in Hawarden. Many people remember Marge’s welcoming smile and demeanor at the drive-through window at the bank. These encounters were not just bank transactions; Marge was always interested in how the customers were doing, asked about their families, while sometimes adding proud mom moments regarding her own family.

Marge was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was guided by her faith during her entire life. She spent time with various ladies’ organizations and volunteering with numerous groups. She loved singing church hymns, listening to all kinds of music, and even enjoyed the Broadway musical "Wicked" during a very special "girls trip" to New York City with her daughters, granddaughters and daughter-in-law.

Through the years of her children and grandchildren growing up, Marge loved attending West Sioux music and athletic events and was very supportive of these activities; regardless of who was participating. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as many good friends in Hawarden.

Marge was very grateful for having shared her life with her husband, Don, of 64 years. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Lisa (Matt) Miller of Brookings SD (deceased), Lynn Baldwin of Kansas City, MO, Scott (Michelle) Dimmick of Kansas City, MO, and Dawn (Matt) Hummel of Hawarden. She is also survived by her two brothers, Darrell (Ruth) Bauder of Frazee, MN and Larry (Joann) Bauder of Hawarden and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Berg of Omaha, NE and Barb Cain of Sioux City, IA. Marge was also blessed with 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Minnie Bauder; her husband Don, and her daughter Lisa; her brothers-in-law, Kenneth Cain and John Berg; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Bauder.
