Marjorie "Marge" Ann Lems

Inwood, Iowa ~ Marjorie “Marge” Ann Lems, 90, of Inwood, passed away with her daughter by her side, on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Fellowship Village in Inwood.

   Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 11, at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa, with Pastor Rob Horstman officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. After the burial the family invites you to join them for lunch served at The Lunch House in Rock Valley. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, at the Inwood Christian Reformed Church in Inwood. The funeral service will be recorded and uploaded to her obituary page. Memorial donations may be directed to Fellowship Village.

   Marjorie Ann Lems was born April 7, 1936, in Sioux Center, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Bessie (Bleyenberg) Harskamp. She graduated from Sioux Center High School. Marge married James Van Kekerix on March 7, 1956, in Rock Valley. They made their home on a farm northwest of Rock Valley and had two sons, Andrew and Paul. James passed away suddenly on January 3, 1965.

   Marge later married Bert Lems on November 8, 1967, in Inwood. They made their home on the Lems farm just east of Beloit, Iowa. Bert passed away on July 15, 2020. The past 8 years Marge lived at Canton Hiawatha Heights, Whispering Heights in Rock Valley, the Bethany Home in Brandon, South Dakota and the last 3 years at Fellowship Village in Inwood, where she passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026, at the age of 90. She suffered from dementia but still enjoyed having company. The family would like to thank all of the care centers for the wonderful care Marge received over the years.

   Marge was a member of the Inwood Christian Reformed Church and loved to cook and bake, and she kept a very clean house. She had a large doll collection, and she enjoyed walking, having coffee with friends, shopping, and getting her hair fixed every Friday. Marge loved Sunday meals with her family and making cut-out cookies, especially decorated for the holidays.

   Survivors include her children, Dale (Amy) Lems, Emma (Mike) Newborg, Andy (Rhonda) Van Kekerix, and Bert’s son, Donald (Lori) Lems; daughter-in-law, Linda Van Kekerix; grandchildren, Bryan (Jodi) Lems, Kari (Joel) Kraayenbrink, Alan (Alyssa) Newborg, Katie (Trevor) Thill, Erika (Dallas) Rozeboom, Jake (Lindsey) Newborg, Maddisan Bonin, Dellaney (Alec) Bonin, Bayler Lems, and their families, Jim, Jennifer, and Joel Van Kekerix and families, Ross, Bobbi Jo, and Mandy Van Kekerix and their families; also surviving are several great-grandchildren and other families of the Lems, Van Kekerix, and Harskamp families.

   Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Bessie; husbands, James and Bert; son, Paul Van Kekerix; and granddaughter, Haddley Lems.
