HAWARDEN, IOWA ~ Marlin “Bub” Van Wyhe, 81, of Hawarden, died suddenly on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Rev. Mark Klompien and Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. Visitation with the family will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Ireton Christian School, Sioux Center Christian School, Siouxland Teens Encounter Christ, Hawarden Youth For Christ, or the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital.

Marlin “Bub” Van Wyhe was born February 13, 1936 on the family farm near McNally, Iowa to Lambert and Annie (Van Muyden) Van Wyhe. He graduated from Hawarden High School. He enlisted in the US Army November 1955. While on furlough he was united in marriage to Darlene Vander Lugt at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church on June 28, 1956. On November 15, 1957 he was honorably discharged from the US Army. Bub moved to Ireton and farmed for many years. After retiring from farming he worked at the Hawarden Farmers Coop for numerous years. Bub enjoyed farming, golfing, playing softball, fishing, and attending all of his families sporting events and their winters in Texas.

He was a member of the Ireton CRC, Lebanon CRC and Hawarden CRC where he served as an elder and a deacon at various times. He also served on the Farmers Mutual Insurance Association Board in Hull, Iowa, the Hawarden Golf Board and the Hawarden YFC Board.

Bub also cherished his early morning Bible studies, his various mission trips, and serving at many Siouxland Teens Encounter Christ weekends where he shared his love for Christ.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife Darlene of more than 61 years, his 4 children and their families:

Karri Bushby of Hawarden, Iowa and her children: Shayla and Makenna and her granddaughter, Quinley

Kendra and Brett Kelley of Stewartville, Minnesota and their children: Addyson, Delilah, and Everett

Also left to cherish Bub's memory are two brothers Duane and his wife Helen of Sioux Center, Iowa and Wayne and wife Hendrene of Hills, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Kathy Van Wyhe of Ireton, Iowa; and other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lambert and Annie Van Wyhe; brother, Gordon Van Wyhe; five sisters, Margaret Vander Griend, Gertrude Webert, Dorothy Vander Griend, Alice Moerman, and Esther Vande Hoef; five brothers-in-law, Dick Vander Griend, Ordean Webert, Pete Vander Griend, William Moerman, and Dick Vande Hoef; a sister-in-law, Jennie Van Wyhe, and grandson, Travis Van Wyhe.
