Marty G. Gebauer

   Marlin (Marty) Gene Gebauer passed in Surprise, AZ on March 23, 2020 at the age of 80. Marty was born May 4, 1939 to Henry and Gladys Gebauer, on the family farm in Plymouth County, Iowa. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1957 and served in the Navy for two years, stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas. Marty married the love of his life, Frances Bernhardt, on December 5, 1959. They made their life-long home in Ireton, Iowa. Marty worked his adult life in the agricultural business and owned the G&S feed store until his retirement in 1995. Throughout his life, Marty maintained a strong relationship with his faith, and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton for most of his married life until he and Fran moved to Sioux Falls in 2017.

   He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends as well as watching sports of any kind. He was known in the family for the best barbecue ribs. Before his passing he was able to celebrate his 60th wedding anniversary in Sun City West with Fran and his children, grandchildren, great-grandson and other family.

   Marty is survived by his wife, Fran; their daughter Dawn and husband Michael Tsoumpas of Vancouver, WA; their son David and wife Susan Gebauer of Sun City West, AZ; along with five grandchildren and one great grandson. He is also survived by his three siblings, brother Larry and his wife Willow Gebauer of Vail, Arizona, sister Connie and her husband Jim Clementson of Alcester, South Dakota, and brother Jeff and his wife Shay Gebauer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. 

   Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. A private family service will take place on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, LCMS in Ireton with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Inurnment with military rites will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, cards could be sent to the Gebauer Family at 14634 W Antelope Dr, Sun City West, AZ 85375. The Porter Funeral Home in Ireton, Iowa is assisting the family.
