Rock Valley, Iowa—Matthew Wayne Zinnel, 31, of Hawarden, Iowa died Sunday, August 10, 2025. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 5:30-7:00pm with a prayer service to follow at 7:00pm at Carmel Reformed Church. Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 10:30am with Rev. Ron Boersema officiating. The family requests attendees to wear WWE or Vikings attire to the visitation and funeral. A private family burial will take place at later date at the Carmel Cemetery.
Matthew Zinnel was born May 21, 1994 in Orange City, Iowa to Kelly & MaryAnn Zinnel. Matthew lived in numerous areas in NW Iowa throughout his childhood, including Orange City, Estherville where he made profession of faith, Rock Valley where he attended high school, and then settled near rural Hawarden near his Burgers grandparents. Matthew earned his high school diploma in 2015. Following graduation, Matthew lived in Hawarden and moved to Sioux City where he worked for Sieboard, Tyson Foods in Dakota City, NE. While working at Tyson Foods he met his life long friend, Justin, who was like a brother to Matthew. Matthew attended Sunnybrook and was an active member with Celebrate Recovery. He later moved to Hawarden and worked at the Shell Station and continued to attend Sunnybrook. While working at the Shell Station he was approached by the owner about learning to become a mechanic at Leusink Repair/Central Tire where he loved servicing vehicles, meeting people, and learning the trade.
In Matthew’s spare time, you could find him fishing, watching WWE, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings or playing Madden football. Spending time with his church family, friends and family was critical to him; they were his lifeline and source of encouragement throughout his life. Matthew’s deep love for Jesus was evident to all.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Kelly & MaryAnn Zinnel of Hawarden; siblings, Rita (Cory) Nagel of George, IA, Tonia Ranschau of Sioux Falls, SD, Rachel (Jordan) Moss of Hull, IA; grandparents, Wayne (Judy) Zinnel of Brewster, MN; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his cousin Kaleb Zinnel, grandparents, Henry & Mary Burgers and his cousin, Eric Top.
