Milo “Gene” Eugene Younie, 95 of Fort Collins, Colorado died August 3, 2015. He was born in Hawarden, Iowa to Elmer and Cora (Scott) Younie on February 21, 1920. As a youth he worked alongside his grandfather at cattle ranching. Later he moved to Alaska and worked building the Alaskan highway, later he attended the United States Marine Corps Boot Camp in California.

On August 6, 1944, Gene married his lovely wife, Louise Gertrude Youngkin. Shortly afterward, he was deployed with the 1st Company of Marines that landed on the beach at Okinawa, Japan. His tour began in Saipan then Okinawa, Aguni and Shima, Japan. During the occupation Gene served in the 4th BN-10th Regiment, 2nd Division of the United States Marine Corps.

After WWII, Gene returned to his wife, Louise in Hawarden, Iowa to continue farming from 1946-1963. It was during this time that their three wonderful children were born; sons, David and Dennis and daughter, Deborah. Gene was a big coon hunter and owned up to 23 Bluetick Coon Hounds at one time. For a period of time he was the President of the Bluetick Breeders of America. In 1963, Gene stopped farming and went to work with his dad and uncles at the Hawarden Meat Processing Plant. Later, he and his family came to Fort Collins, Colorado where he worked throughout the Western United States at Gas-A-Mat, performing facility maintenance and gas pump repair. He retired in the mid 1980’s where he enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. In 2008 he and his son traveled to Japan to revisit where he served in WWII.

Gene is survived by his sons, David (Marilyn) Younie of Montrose, Colorado and Dennis (Sharon) Younie of Loveland, Colorado; daughter, Deborah Fenton-Nichols (Ken) of Fort Collins, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Jeremy Fenton, Kara McKenna, Cory and Cora Younie; 5 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Brandon, Adrianna, Shelby Johnson, Easton, and Grayson;sister, Margie Youngkin of Hawarden, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by wife, Louise; older brother, Scott Younie and step-granddaughter, Alexa Johnson.
Visitation, Sunday, August 9th at Goes Funeral Care & Crematory, Inc., Fort Collins, CO, 4:00-7:00 PM. Visitation, Tuesday, August 11th at Porter Funeral Home, Hawarden, IA, 12:00-1:00 PM, the Memorial Service to follow at Porter Funeral Home, 1:00-2:00 PM.
