HAWARDEN, IOWA – Peter J. Daale, Jr., 88, of rural Hawarden, died on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at his residence.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Rev. Wick Hubers and Rev. Mark Klompien officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The family prefers memorials be directed to the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital or Youth For Christ.
Peter John Daale, Jr. was born April 14, 1930 on the Iowa side of the river near Hudson, South Dakota, the son of Peter John Daale, Sr. and Elizabeth Vander Lugt. He graduated from the Hawarden, Iowa High School in 1947.
Peter married Henrietta Herweyer, a high school classmate, on August 12, 1949 at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church. They made their home northeast of Hawarden where Peter farmed and was engaged in the trucking business.
He was a member of the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church where he served on the church counsel. Peter also served on the rural water board for 18 years. He enjoyed his farming, trucking, and making new friends while camping. Many enjoyable evenings were spent around the campfires with family and friends. During his last years, Peter loved to sit in his patio and watch all of the farm and trucking activities on the farm yard.
Peter is survived by his wife, Henrietta; three sons, Jerry and wife Sherri Daale of rural Hawarden, Pete Daale also of rural Hawarden, and Dave and wife Roni Daale of Fairview, South Dakota; two brothers, Wilbur and wife Lucy Daale and Ron and wife Marlene Daale all of Hawarden; a sister-in-law, Joey Herweyer of Hull, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one on the way!
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Daale; daughter-in-law, Randee Daale; sister-in-law, Joyce Daale; three brothers-in-law, Bill and Julia Herweyer, Hank and Rose Herweyer, and Fritz Herweyer; and three sisters-in-law, Jen and Case Bleeker, Mike and Hank Hubers, and Anne and Don Brommer.
