IRETON, IOWA ~ Phyllis N. Winterfeld, 96, of Ireton, died surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 14, 2024.

   Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. The Porter Funeral Home in Ireton is assisting the family. The funeral service will be taped and then available on the church Website page, Facebook page, and YouTube page.

   Phyllis was born May 7, 1927, in Hudson, South Dakota, the daughter of Raymond “Kelly” and Inez (Anderson) Iverson. She grew up in Hudson and graduated from Hudson High School in 1945.

   On February 22, 1948, she was united in marriage with Edwin Winterfeld from Sioux Center, Iowa. They moved to a farm near Ireton, Iowa where they have resided their entire marriage. Phyllis was a devoted support on the farm and also worked at Otis Radio and Jubilee Foods during her working years. She loved spending time with her family and opened her heart and home to many others, as her joy in life was caring for others and being surrounded by those she loved.

   Phyllis was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ireton and the Ladies Aide. She also enjoyed many adventures with her friends in the Red Hat Society. Phyllis was a lifelong member of the Hudson American Legion Auxiliary-joining when she was born.

   Survivors include two sons, Gregg Winterfeld of Ireton and Curtis (Roxann) Winterfeld of Hawarden, Iowa; a daughter, Janine (Troy) Sonichsen of Sioux City, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jodi (Eric) McClendon of Sioux City, Iowa, Jill (Kenny) Halligan of Sugar Land, Texas, Joey (Jerred) Younie of Rapid City, South Dakota, Cathy Winterfeld of Algona, Iowa, Christy Bruner of Hawarden, and Jesse (Brent) West of Fremont, Nebraska; 19 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

   Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; her brother, Bob Iverson and his wife Elly; daughter-in-law, Judy Winterfeld; and her grandson, Tayce Sonichsen.
